Seriously I am a nerd

I am all geeked out on the new iphone 2.0 update.  It’s all I can think about.  I’ve been playing with all the new apps and I’m am loving my phone even more than I did before.  I’m not getting the new 3G phone just yet.  I like the metal back on the 1st generation iphones so much more, feels more elegant than the plastic back.  Plus I don’t like that ATT hiked up the fees for iphone owners, I would be paying more per month which totally sucks.  Here are current favorite apps:

Pandora

This has got to be my most favorite app.  I love that I can listen to my favorite tunes/artists on my phone.  It’s like Depeche Mode is in my purse all the time.

Evernote

I have this on my MacBook also.  When I’m at work and I want to remember to look something up at home this app will allow you to paste a screenshot of what you need and when you get home you can go back to it.  The cool thing is that you can add tags to your stuff so you can search for more easily.  The screenshot function is by far my favorite feature.

Twitterific

The dudes at IconFactory are geniuses.  I have been a fan of their work for a longtime and love all their apps.  They make my Mac desktop pretty with al their cute icons.  If you are on Twitter, this is a must have app.

Speaking of Twitter, I am sorry for all the panic yesterday morning on my feed.  I was so excited about the new update and when it ibricked my phone I thought I was going to loose everything.  By Noon everything was back to normal.

I have been tossing around the thought of getting a second job for some time now.  I decided to apply at the Apple store.  It may be defeating my goal of bringing in extra cash, but it’s something that I can get excited about which is more than I can say for my real job right now.  I wanted a second job that was going to be fun and I think this will be a great experience.

Courtney and I have also been playing with our Flip this week.  I’ll post some videos soon.  I’m waiting on MobileMe to workout the kinks before I upload the videos.

I don’t have much going on this weekend which is a nice break.  The last two weekends have been jammed pack.  As usual I have tons of laundry to do, most of which is thanks to Courtney’s MRSA infection.  We have to wash his clothes and towels everyday to keep the infection from spreading.  Not fun.  Oh, I did get a microderm facial yesterday.  It did wonders to my face!  I went to see Kathy at Scosh Skincare Studio.  This was my first treatment and my skin is noticeably clearer and smoother.  I got the package deal, $150 for three treatments.  I have sun damage on my shoulders from my many years of being on the swim team, Kathy also took care of that for me.  While the hyper-pigmentation will not go away completely it will get lighter and that’s fine with me.  I just want to look my best on my wedding day.  If you are in the metro Phoenix area, I highly recommend Scosh if you are looking for skincare treatments.

I’m gonna dig into my laundry and get things done today!

Another reason to buy a Mac

Genius.

“Again & Again” – The Bird and The Bee

A flicker of light at the end of the tunnel

Getting sick put a HUGE cramp in my schedule for class.  I didn’t think that I would ever be able to catch up but thankfully with the help from SRP and a blown server my instructor gave us an additional week to get the last set of labs done.  Someone upstairs loves me smile I also have an extra week to study for the final exam which I so needed!

Wedding plans are moving right along.  Courtney and I are getting married in the Catholic church and if you’re not familar with that practice they make engaged couples go through a series of classes before they can be married in the church.  We have had to meet with a priest who gives a compatibility test and then goes through all the results to ensure that we have no conflicts.  Two hundred questions later and it turns out that Courtney and I are pretty compatiable.  When we started this process we were told that these sessions with the priest could take three to six months.  One session, that was it.  Now all that we have left to do is make sure that all our documents are in order, attend the engaged couples weekend and a natural family planning class.  That’s it.  I was more stressed about going through this process than I am about getting married.  We have our couples weekend tomorrow and Friday and we have no idea what to expect.  We just know that other couples will be going through the same class.  I hope we don’t have to hug each other, anyone who knows me knows that I have personal space issues.  I’ll take my camera to document the events but I don’t know if picture taking is allowed.

I had major geek drama this week.  I had an external networked hard drive crash on Saturday.  Everything is on that hard drive.  EVERYTHING!  I know, I know.  I should have backed up my backup, no need to harp on me now.  I totally know better.  So the drive is out of warrenty so I investigate data recovery services.  Seriously, why didn’t I get into this business??  It’s a total sham, they play on your emotional attachment to your stuff.  I’m trying to not be so attached but it’s all my pictures for the last three years and 1800 mp3’s.  That’s all the pictures since Maggie and the twins were born.  How could I not be attached to the data.  I totally believe that it’s a power source issue and not so much a corruption of data and if I’m right it should keep prices low.  These data recovery places don’t give quotes on what you need they tell you over and over that it could cost $500-$2700 and that you will be billed once the work is complete.  I’m trying to be positive.  I’ll write a review once everything is done.

My day is done.  Enjoy your weekend!

Can I kick it?

Over the last week I have been kicking the Tribe Called Quest tunes…then mixing in the new Jimmy Eat World album.  It’s an odd combination but I love it.

I wanted to share this photoshoot of my new friend Amy and her girls with everyone, we took these at Gainey Ranch last weekend.  It was such a beautiful morning and the resort wasn’t too crowded.  Aren’t they just lovely!

Having a blog these days means that I tend to get hit with spam quite a bit.  I never really look that deep into the comments but one caught my eye recently.  It was from a marketing company who wanted to know if I wanted to test drive the new 2008 Dodge Grand Caravan for a week.  I answered their questions and after 20 minutes I was scheduled to have a mini-van for a week.

Right now I have a 2005 Honda Odyssey and I love it.  I’ve only loved one other car more, my 1989 Honda CRX….ahh the memories.  Dodge gave me a fully loaded mini-van to drive and I have to say that it’s not too shabby.  Price-wise it’s comparable to the Honda, and it feels like it’s a bit smaller than my Honda.  I love the DVD and Sirus system.  I really wish I had pushed the salesmen to include that stuff in my van but after haggling for 10hrs I gave up the fight.  My biggest complaint is that when you pull on the door handles the door doesn’t automatically open for you.  The automatic open is on the key but not on the outside.  The sound system is awesome, espically when cranking my old school tunes.  Oh and the best thing is the satillite TV from Sirus….well if you have kids.  Right now Sirus only offers three channels, all cartoons.  I hope that the channel lineup grows because there is so much potential with that technology!  The only other thing that worries…Dodge cars just don’t hold their resale value well compared to the Honda.  If you are in the market for a new mini-van I would totally put this one on the list to try out.

Today, I’m at the CISCO lab getting waiting for Mark to catch up so we can start the last set of labs together.  I am really impressed with myself that all this CISCO stuff is sticking with me.  I have two more classes to get through and then it will be time for the certification test.  A year ago I really didn’t have any idea where I wanted to go with work, I just knew that I couldn’t stay where I was at for much longer.  I was on the verge of self-sabbotaging my job and that’s never a good thing.  Even thought it has been rough, moving to the technology side of the company was a good decision.  I was thinking about my dad recently…he was an Engineer, building ejection seats for jet fighters, and I thought I could never do anything like that.  Looking at where I want to go now, I will be an Engineer, just like my dad.  As weird as this may sound, this move feels right.  Just as I get frustrated and want to give it up, the light comes on and it all makes sense again.  Wow!  That was deep.

I started Weight Watchers again.  Watch out folks, Elisabet has been off of soda for a week!

I have some scrapbooking layouts and pictures to share.  Look for those later today or tomorrow.  It’s going to be an awesome day in Phoenix, get out and enjoy this city with the people you love!

“I just need my macbook fixed!!”

This is one giant Apple tech support line

In the jungle

Snapper wants me to post every so often while we are in line here at the Apple store.  Here is a run down of events so far:

The line is pretty long.  We are in the first ten.

There is a white Reggae band playing in the grass

An old man flipped me off when I was taking a picture of the line (picture coming).  I joyfully thanked him for the sentiment.

I’m starving.

In the waiting line

So John and I are sitting in line at the Apple store at the Biltmore..eagerly awaiting the release of Leopard.  Seriously, I never thought that I would be so into the hype…but lately I can’t get enough of all the geek talk.

The conversations in line crack me up…how much they bought their Apple shares for…etc.  Is this when I pipe up and say that I got in at $21 a share!

It’s been a long week

Seriously!  I’ve been hunched over spreadsheets and data all week.  I worked from home today hoping that a casual environment would give me a different perspective on my data gathering.  It did not.  It did however give me the worst headache ever!

I’m on the hype about Sean Penn’s new flick.  That dude and Emile Hersch deserve much respect for this project.  Truely inspiring.  Eddie Vedder does an stellar job on the soundtrack also.  I even gifted it to my BFF Joey.  I hope that he finds inspiration in the story also.

Courtney and I cleaned and dusted out the computer area today.  The PC tower is no longer as loud as the AC unit.  I also took time to update my network with AirPort Extreme.  Apple rocks.  Printers are all networked now.  It is beauty only a geek could love.

I’m off to bed.  Gots to meet Snapper at 630am for a workout and Labs.  It’s going to be an awesome weekend here in Phoenix.  Get outside and enjoy your surroundings.

Back Home

We made back home and jumped right back into the daily grind.

First let me say “HELLO!” to my longtime BFF Joey.  Joey just got his own computer!  I guess maybe I should quit talking smack about him now.  Remember Joey, you’re too old for MySpace and date girls your own age wink

I still have pictures to import from the various cameras.  Hopefully I can get to that this weekend.  Along with the rest of the Apple/MAC loving world I was smitten over the announcements on Sept. 5th.  So much so I ran out and got Juan Camacho:

Yes, my iphone is named Juan Camacho, I name all my Apple stuff.  The name just rolls off the tongue doesn’t it??  He he he.  I love this phone!  I spent most of the night making ringtones for it, now everyone has their own special ringtone.  It really is a work of art.  My treo will still be loved and will be going to off to a new home with Brian and Damon later today.  Thankfully I had the smarts to sync my contacts before reformatting the phone.

So my health hasn’t been the best in the last week.  On schedule I got sick just before Labor Day and before going to NC.  I went to the doc yesterday because I just couldn’t shake it.  Turns out that I have strep.  I got meds and I slept so much better last night for the first time in ten days.  Being sick has put a kink in my workouts with John, but I hope to resume training next week.

I’ve got a ton of scrapbooking to do this weekend for gifts that need to go out on Monday.  Geez!  I can’t muster the motivation to buckle down and get it done!  There is always something more interesting to do like watching The Hills over and over.  Seriously I’m a sad individual.

Think good thoughts for my friend Dayle.  She’s been a little stressed this past week with work and family stuff.  Hugs and kisses to Dayle!

Have a fabulous weekend!

Adobe LightRoom has become my new BFF.  Check out the sample gallery I put together.
